The 9R Spring Drive 8Days is driven by a Spring Drive and is the first Grand Seiko produced by the high-quality watch specialists at the Micro Artist Studio at Seiko's Shiojiri plant near Nagano. It contains the new 9R01 Spring Drive caliber with an eight-day power reserve. This is made possible by an innovative approach to the barrel that preserves power by controlling the mainspring. The existing Spring Drive caliber contains one barrel, but the 9R01 caliber has three linked together, extending the run time given by each wind by more than 250%. The case material is a rare 950 platinum, a blend containing 95% platinum. The new Zaratsu polishing technique was also used on this model to give the case a well-defined edge and exquisite finish never before seen on a platinum case.
The pure white dial has a sparkling diamond dust effect reminiscent of a winter morning in the Suwa region near the studio, a unique composite finish that ensures high visibility and shines while capturing the light.
